Vessels taking part in the Tall Ships’ Race

To tie in with the port’s 800th anniversary, over 100 tall ships will gather on Liverpool’s waterfront this July for the start of the Tall Ships’ Race 2008 to Norway.

Groups will have a three-day opportunity to explore the vessels to see what it is like to live aboard and crew members will also be on hand to explain all aspects of tall ship life, such as how to climb the rigging and release the sails.

After looking around the ships, your group can join in the festivities of the ‘Sea Shanty Festival’ and watch the Tall Ship crews sing and dance their way on foot through the streets of Liverpool in the ‘Crew Parade’, before waving the fleet goodbye as they set off on the ‘Parade of Sail’ up the River Mersey.

The Tall Ships’ Race 2008 will take place from 18th to 21st July at the Waterfront in Liverpool. Admission is free. For more information telephone 0151 233 2008.
