Government responds to petition on drivers' hours

The Government has announced that it will not consider seeking any changes to the new EU regulations on drivers’ working hours.

The coach industry’s petition asked the government to address concerns about the impact of the regulations on their ability to meet customer requirements, driving consumers to use other forms of transport.

In its response, the Government states that it is satisfied that the regulations strike a reasonable balance between improving safety and working conditions and the needs of coach operators.

However, reports from the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), who are in dialogue with the EU, indicate that it may be willing to discuss modifications to the regulations.
