As Liverpool counts down to becoming European Capital of Culture in 2008, new coach parking sites are scheduled to open to meet increased tourism demand

Liverpool City Council is planning to open a number of new coach parking facilities across the city to meet a rise in demand stemming from increased tourism.

New sites are planned for Bankfield Street, Brownlow Hill, Regents Road, Walter Street and Upper Duke Street and drop-off points are intended for Crosshall Street, William Brown Street and Fontenoy Street.

As there is some public opposition to several of the planned coach parks the Council announced a number of public consultations, which began taking place in August, to address concerns and speed up the process of opening the sites.

As the sites are all at various stages of construction and the results of public consultations have not yet been received no opening dates are yet available, but it has been confirmed that they will take place in late 2007 and through into 2008. This should help when the city becomes European Capital of Culture next year.
