China's largest theme park

Shanghai, in China, will feature the country’s largest theme park when Joy Valley opens in 2010.

The 200-acre site will cost £3.2 million to transform and, on opening, will not only feature a theme park but also a hotel, conference centre and theatre with an audience capacity of more than 5,000.

It has also been announced that the site will be the new venue for the annual Global Carnival each September.

It is hoped that the park will receive between five and seven million visitors annually.

Although the park is expected to open fully in 2010, it is anticipated that some of the rides will open in time for September next year.
