Prado extension opens
On 31st October, the new extension to Madrid’s Prado Museum was officially inaugurated by the King and Queen of Spain.
The opening of the new wing saw the beginning of a six month exhibition in the new space, entitled ‘The 19th Century in the Prado’, which will feature over 100 works ranging from Goya to Sorolla.
The new extension has added an extra 22, 000 square metres of exhibition space to the Museum, which houses the Spanish national art collection.
The extension’s main focal point is the central hall, which, having been reconstructed, was once the two tiered cloisters of the nearby church of Los Jeronimos.
Various discounts are available for groups visiting the Museum.
