Two new World Heritage sites in Israel

The Baha’i World Centre in Haifa (comprising the Shrine of the Bab, terraced gardens and administrative buildings) and Acre’s Shrine of Baha’u’llah and its surrounding gardens have been granted World Heritage status bringing the number of UNESCO-listed sites in Israel to 11.

The resting places of the Baha’i faith’s founding fathers, Baha’u’llah and the Bab, the two destinations are sites of pilgrimage, as well as popular tourist sites for visitors from all over the world.

The golden-domed Shrine of the Bab in Haifa is surrounded by 18 terraces featuring formal gardens and attracts in excess of 500,000 visitors a year. The Shrine of Baha’u’llah, near the World Heritage-listed site of the Old City of Acre, attracts 50,000 visitors annually.

Entrance to the shrines and gardens is free. Groups are advised to reserve guided tours in advance of their visit.
