Baby cranes welcomed at Slimbridge
The WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre in Gloucestershire has announced the arrival of a new group of baby Eurasian cranes to the site.
The newly hatched chicks can be seen through camouflage netting by visitors as they are taken on a walk through the marsh garden at intervals throughout the day.
Alternatively, it is possible to book one of two daily ‘Crane School’ sessions that allow small groups to dress up in crane costumes and join experts as they teach the cranes how to survive in the wild by learning how to feed, recognise and protect themselves from predators, and interact with their siblings. The costumes are necessary so that the cranes do not become too accustomed to humans.
Visits to ‘Crane School’ are included in the standard admission costs, discounted for groups, but can only be booked on the day and are limited to 20 people per session.
