Burgh Halls’ £5 million revamp
Work has begun on a £5 million project to transform Linlithgow’s Burgh Halls, in Scotland, into an arts and heritage centre.
Two listed buildings make up the site; the first of these dates back to the 17th century and once served as the town’s jail, court house and tollbooth, whilst the second building was built in the 19th century and functioned as County Hall.
The buildings are hoped to be restored by March 2010 when the site will re-open as a multi-purpose centre featuring heritage interpretation, visual arts and crafts and a programme of events including the annual Marches Festival, in June, and the Advent Fair, in November.
As part of the project, a new entrance will be developed that will act as a reception and display area as well as a garden room cafe providing refreshments.
