Bess' birthplace, Hardwick Hall.
Bess’ birthplace, Hardwick Hall.

Launched to co-incide with the 400th anniversary of her death in 1508, High Peak Borough Council has released a new guide and itinerary planner, ‘Bess of Hardwick, A Remarkable Woman’.

Also containing details of Blue Badge guides, group-friendly hotels and coach operators, the new guide explores historic sites associated with Bess.

Born to an impoverished landowner in 1527 at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, Bess rose to become one of the most powerful political players in Elizabethan England. The new itineraries in the guide suggest visits to Hardwick as well as other Derbyshire properties associated with Bess such as Chatsworth House, Bolsover Castle and Derby Cathedral, where she is buried.
