Falmouth's maritime heritage

19th century Falmouth in the First and Last exhibition
19th century Falmouth in the First and Last exhibition

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall based in Falmouth recently opened two new permanent exhibitions; ‘Falmouth, First and Last’ and ‘Falmouth for Orders’.

Exploring the port’s 18th century hey-day, when it was a centre for communications between ships arriving in or leaving British waters, making it both first and last port of call, ‘Falmouth, First and Last’ displays everyday items from the era such as journals and historic communication equipment. It also features early maritime photographs, giving you a glimpse into 19th century port-life.

‘Falmouth for Orders’, named after the old naval command, explores later developments, such as the postal service that the town provided in the 19th century.

The Museum offers a discount on entry to groups of 10 or more.
