Gun battery restored
The Heugh Gun Battery, in Hartlepool, re-opened recently following the completion of a £600,000 restoration project.
The site, which defended the town against a German bombardment in 1914, has been restored to how it would have looked during the two World Wars.
The Battery closed in October last year but has now re-opened as a visitor attraction that includes a toilet block, cafe and exhibition centre. Additionaly, the site features a refurbished barrack room and observation post and the parade ground has also been re-laid with gravel.
GTOs can arrange a tailor-made guided tour of the site as well as group meals and refreshments in the on-site cafe.
