Kenilworth's queen of gardens
The 12th century Kenilworth Castle, in Warwickshire, is set to unveil its completed reconstruction of an original Elizabethan garden next April.
In 1575, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, created a special garden for the visit of Queen Elizabeth I, to whom he was a close and intimate friend. Based on the original designs for this site, which still exist in the Castle’s archives, gardeners are attempting to faithfully recreate the formal plantings, terraces and pathways that would have been on the site over 400 years ago.
There is a 15% discount on admission for groups of 11 or more people and the Castle is currently offering GTOs free familiarisation visits.
