Mangroves and coastlines
Torquay’s marine zoo, Living Coasts in Devon, will open two new attractions this March; ‘Mangroves: The Roots of The Sea’ and ‘Coastline’.
The new Mangroves attraction aims to recreate the experience of exploring one of the tropical swamps found in South America and Asia. Groups will enter a tree-top canopy area featuring animals and insects native to mangroves such as fire-flies, bats and flying-foxes before descending a walkway into the dense vegetation of the swamp. Here you will see examples of giant rooted trees, tropical fish and reptiles found in these habitats.
To learn more about the UK’s coasts, meanwhile, the ‘Coastline’ exhibit will explore the ecology and marine life of Britain’s south western shorelines. Looking at creatures such as seals, which are native to British waters, you will also be able to learn more about how changes in the environment are affecting our native wildlife.
Groups are offered a discount on admission.
