Plans have been unveiled to redevelop Mumbles Pier in Swansea at a cost of £39 million.

Originally built in 1898, then re-built in 1956, the pier itself will undergo re-building works at a cost of £4 million. The lifeboat house on the pier is also hoped to be re-built by 2010.

Additionally, the area at the entrance to the Pier will be developed to include a new 150-bedroom hotel and spa, restaurants, an exhibition centre and a family entertainment centre.

The redevelopment forms part of the larger Swansea Bay Strategy, a regeneration programme covering the waterfront area between West Pier in the east to Mumbles Pier in the west, which aims to make the seafront area more appealing to visitors.
