Treasures tracing 500 years at Althorp
A new exhibition is opening on 1st July at Althorp – the estate in Northamptonshire belonging to the Spencer family – called ‘The Spencers at Althorp: 500 Years of Family History’.
Running until 30th August, when the estate closes for the season, the exhibition will be displayed in five of the 19 rooms open to the public.
A highlight for visitors is a family album, to be displayed in the Saloon room, showing photographs of the present Earl and his sisters, including Diana, in the early 1960s. There is also a lock of Nelson’s hair cut after his death at the Battle of Trafalgar, which was sent to George John, 2nd Earl Spencer, former First Lord of the Admiralty.
Group rates are available for 12 or more people.
