York Castle Museum launches sixties exhibition

York Castle Museum, in North Yorkshire, has opened a new permanent exhibition called ‘Swing Back to the Sixties’.

It explores important themes from the decade including the role of women, fashion, music and the Cold War through a display of art, militaria, clothing, fashion accessories and technology of the decade.

Artefacts from the 1960s on display include a Lambretta scooter, clothes and fashion accessories by designer Mary Quant and a pair of Andy Warhol prints of Marilyn Monroe.

In addition, there is television and film footage from the era, a jukebox for visitors to play their favourite tunes from the 60s and old telephones where groups can listen to audio recordings relaying memories from the past.

Groups of 10 or more receive discounted admission.
