An American trilogy

Two new exhibitions, featuring previously unseen items, have opened this month at Graceland in Tennessee – the former home of American music icon Elvis Presley.

‘Private Presley’ celebrates the 50th anniversary of his induction into the US Army. It contains a jacket Elvis wore in the 1960 press conference he hosted upon returning home, as well as a blue army dress jacket he wore on the train ride home from New York to Memphis.

The ‘Elvis 68’ exhibition, meanwhile, celebrates the 40th anniversary of his famous 1968 TV special ‘Singer Presents Elvis’. It features the white suit Elvis wore for the finale song, as well as tickets to the tapings, photographs and a script. Both exhibitions will be on display until 2009.

Additionally, groups can benefit from an enhanced audio VIP Tour, which now incorporates a visit to the estate’s working barn to see Elvis’ saddle and other equestrian paraphernalia, as well as artefacts from Elvis’ high school days, such as his high school diploma and yearbooks.

Groups of 15 or more receive discounts on the VIP Tour, which includes entry to the exhibitions.
