Arkansas opens museum district

Featuring three new free attractions; The Fort Chaffee Barbershop Museum, the Vietnam Veterans Museum and the Enchanted Doll Museum, Fort Smith in Arkansas unveiled its new Museum district this August.

The Fort Chaffee Barbershop Museum is housed on the former military base where Elvis famously had his head shaven before starting his national service. Featuring a recreated barbershop interior, typical of the 1950s, the Museum houses a range of Elvis memorabilia such as the original script to the film, ‘King Creole’, which he filmed just before he began his training.

Groups can also visit the Vietnam Veterans Museum, which features a variety of poignant memorabilia from the conflict such as uniforms and personal items including soldiers’ letters to wives and girlfriends.

For something a bit lighter, the Enchanted Doll Museum features about 5,000 dolls including life-size replicas of Ken and Barbie.
