From slave to leading scientist
Chicago’S Field Museum will be hosting a new exhibition on the former slave, George Washington Carver, who in the late 19th century was one of the first African-Americans to study at a college level and later went on to become one of America’s leading botanists.
Running from 1st February to 6th July and featuring over 100 artefacts from Carver’s life, the exhibition will display equipment from his laboratory at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama where he worked, as well as items relating to his pioneering work in organic farming methods and plant-based medicines.
Groups of more than 15 people receive discounts on admission and can pre-book guided tours.
