Project sets sail

The Working Waterfront Maritime Museum in Tacoma, Washington, has closed to undergo an expansion project and is due to re-open in 2009.

The re-development will see the exhibition space tripled and the addition of an 80-seater auditorium. As well as photos, artefacts and interactive displays, the Museum will feature boat-building demonstrations and an area that will be used for the restoration of wooden boats.

The Museum expansion will form part of a larger 10.8 million pound re-development project at the Puget Sound area, anticipated to be completed by 2011, which will include open space for public events along the downtown waterfront and the preservation of the Balfour Dock building.
