Groups visiting the City of Independence in Missouri should make a trip to the the Truman Presidential Museum and Library, which is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary.
To mark the occasion a new exhibition has recently opened called ‘Treasures of the Presidents’. It features a collection of more than 200 artefacts which are on loan from the nation’s presidential libraries.
The exhibition runs until January 2008 and includes campaign memorabilia, head of state gifts such as a jewel encrusted dagger, personal possessions such as Bill Clinton’s saxophone and folk art gifts such as a hand-carved bust of Harry Truman.
Groups of 15 or more receive discounted entry to the Museum.
A guided tour lasting an hour and a half can also be arranged free of charge; however this must be booked four months in advance.
