BIAZA 2008

Let’s all go to the Zoo!

Did you know that more people visit zoos and aquariums than go to premier football matches in the UK? In 2006, they attracted over 18 million visitors. Zoos and aquariums aren’t just for children – they have one of the widest audiences in terms of age range and demographics compared to other attractions!

So, no wonder that group visits are increasingly popular to our zoos, safri parks and aquariums.

Zoos and aquariums are also great places to learn about animals and conservation. In 2006, there were over one million educational visits.

The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) is the professional organisation representing zoos and aquariums.

Last year, members participated in nearly 600 research projects as well as 400 conservation projects in the wild, and contributed over £4.6 million to field projects. So, your visit to a zoo will help support all of this work too.

This is our first supplement with Group Travel Organiser magazine, so if you haven’t been to the zoo in a while, you can find out more here and we hope to see you soon.
