Hollywood comes to the south bank
The newly refurbished Royal Festival Hall will be turned into a small piece of the USA over the summer holiday, as the RSC’s 1987 stage version of the iconic Hollywood film The Wizard of Oz takes over the hall for a season.
The production features an all-star cast including Gary Wilmot as the Cowardly Lion, Adam Cooper as the Tin Man and Hilton Macrae as the Scarecrow. Sian Brooke will play Dorothy whilst the part of the wizard will be taken by show business veteran Roy Hudd.
The show features all Arlen and Harburg’s classic songs, including Somewhere Over The Rainbow (famously nearly dropped from the film), We’re Off to See The Wizard and Follow The Yellow Brick Road.
The Wizard of Oz will run at the Royal Festival Hall from 23rd July until 31st August.
