A Deep insight into Hull
Cecil Freeman, President of the Leeds Probus club, has the task of organising a day out every year for his members and a trip to Hull incorporating submarium, The Deep, was the chosen destination this June.
The package was booked through the tourism body Visit Hull and East Yorkshire and Cecil comments, “Everything was impeccably arranged and for a very reasonable price too.”
The group of 32 enjoyed a coffee stop and lunch in Hull as well as a visit to The Deep and a guided walking tour of the city. “The Deep is well worth visiting. It was our first time there and we spent just under two hours at the attraction, although we could have stayed longer,” recalls Cecil. “It is a huge building and there is an enormous tank there – it must have been about 40 feet deep! You start at the top of the building and make your way down a series of slopes, looking at the various fish at each level. It was fascinating and although we are a retired group, there were also children there when we visited, who seemed to love it, so it is ideal for families too!”
After their visit to The Deep, the group enjoyed a walking tour around the Old Town of Hull with a very good guide, according to Cecil. “There are about six or seven museums in this area and so much to see and do that we could have spent two days in the city,” he says. “It was a very interesting and popular choice.”
