Archeological Libya
Libya was the interesting destination of choice recently for a group of 26 people from the St Lawrence Group, a local church group based in Pinner, Middlesex. Group organiser George Guest comments, “I arranged the 10-day trip through Cheshire-based Greatdays Travel Group, a company I have used almost since it started for many of my trips abroad. All the arrangements were fine, the coaches were very new and well equipped and the drivers were excellent.”
The group’s trip focused on the many archeological sites around the country and says George, “The whole programme was well arranged and meant we really covered an immense amount – though the individual site visits were comfortably paced.” Amongst these visits included guided tours of the ancient classical ruins of Cyrene and the town of Ghadames as well as stops at Ptolemais and Sabratha and the National Museum in Tripoli, which George describes as a ‘must’. He remembers, “We had a guide with us throughout the holiday but also had individual ones on various excursions and the guide at Cyrene was particularly good, having worked on the excavations there.”
Regarding accommodation, George states, “The hotels were very acceptable; we enjoyed stays in several locations and the standards were as high as in most ‘western’ countries.” He continues, “I think the trip exceeded everyone’s expectations, the Libyan people were friendly and it was a delight to see such splendid sites.”
