Lessons in Denby pottery

Thirty five members of the Whetstone 25 Club, based near Leicester, enjoyed a day trip to Denby Pottery in Derbyshire at the end of last month. Social Secretary, Laurence Watkins explains, “The company I work for is Alstec Ltd, in Whetstone. Over 20 years ago, it was decided to create a club made up of employees who have given 25 years or more continuous service to the company on this site.”

Laurence always uses Woods Coaches of Wigston,Leicester, for coach travel on his day trips and this one was no exception. He comments, “I find the company excellent and have become a valued customer.”

The idea for a visit to Denby Pottery came to him when he searched on the internet for factory tours and found out about the company. “I contacted Denby direct to make a booking and the service offered was excellent. The club received a number of discount vouchers for members to use in the shops on the day of the visit and Denby kept in contact with me right up until the day of the trip.”

The group spent about five to six hours at the attraction enjoying not only the factory tour but lunch and a cookery demonstration. “Members thought the day out was very good, the tour was interesting and the tour guide excellent,” reports Laurence.

He continues, “I tend to look for places that will provide an interesting tour of a working environment for a retired group of people, of which nearly two thirds of the club are, and provide facilities for meals. Denby Pottery was ideal and it was a very worthwhile day.”
