Murder in Torquay!
Fifty five members of the Berkshire-based Thatcham U3A enjoyed a one-night ‘murder mystery’ stay at the Rainbow Hotel in Torquay recently. Travel Group Convener, Ann Allen, comments, “After visiting on a familiarisation trip, the stay was booked directly with the hotel and we arrived around mid-afternoon, enjoying a delicious cream tea in the beautiful Empress ballroom. We then had time to relax or wander down to the harbour before the evening began. The scene for the murder mystery was set during pre-dinner drinks when the actors mingled with the group and everyone joined in with enthusiasm. As the meal progressed, the plot developed and the ‘murder’ took place at the end on one of the staircases. The actors were brilliant and over coffee and mince pies, we were allowed to question them to try and find out whodunnit!”
The next morning, the group spent time in town before setting off for home. “The weekend was excellent,” concludes Ann. “We had a great time and were made very welcome by the hotel staff.”
