Seals and sightseeing in Suffolk
Forty seven members of the Thatcham U3A Travel Group in Berkshire enjoyed their first ever five-day trip to Corton in Suffolk at the end of March. Says GTO Ann Allen, “Group UK, based in Norwich, organised the coach and accommodation and I discussed the itinerary and worked out timings with the tour manager. Thanks to the company, everything went smoothly and we were even supplied with fantastic weather for most of the time!”
The group stayed at Warner Breaks’ Corton Coastal Resort and Ann comments, “We were very impressed with the chalets – they were extremely clean and comfortable and the food and entertainment was superb. On the last night, we even had a gala dinner with a Bucks Fizz reception.”
Three excursions were enjoyed during the stay; the first was to Wroxham Barns, with its unusual gift shops and craft workshops, about 10 miles outside Norwich, along with a paddleboat ride on the Southern Comfort from Horning on the Norfolk Broads, travelling along the River Bure and out to Ranworth Broad and back. The second was to Norwich and The National Trust’s Blickling Hall, Garden and Park and the third to Morston Quay in north Norfolk for a boat ride, with Beans Boat Trips, to see the seals at Blakeney Point. Ann reports, “I would recommend the seal trip, it was certainly one of the highlights for us. The seal colony is made up of common and grey seals and numbers are around 500!”
She continues, “Our coach driver Paul was brilliant and our lovely tour manager Bert kept us entertained with his excellent local knowledge. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday – it was wonderful – and would definitely book another with Group UK. On the way home, lots of people were asking ‘when’s the next one? I’d better get organising!”
