A response on Lake District parking

I have read with interest the letter from John Williams regarding his problems with parking in the Lake District.

I have been a GTO for 25 years now and we have been to the Lake District many times. I can honestly say in all those years I have never come across such trouble as he had.

Both myself and the coach companies I have used have made ourselves aware of the coach parking rules and prices before we have got there, which does save us a lot of time and trouble.

He also made a point of stating how the elderly passengers were partly to blame for his fine due to their speed and requests. Yes, it does take older people a lot of time getting off a coach because of various reasons but I have dealt with this situation for years now and my group’s ages range from 60 to 93 years old.

I ask my group to carry their hand luggage with them onto the coach for easy access.

I for one try to assist the coach driver in any way possible as they do have a lot of factors to deal with including traffic situations and the passengers.

I am sorry for Mr Williams bad luck and I wish him good luck and less stressful journeys for the future.
