Continental connoisseurs

I write in response to Marjorie Clarke’s enquiry. I regularly take a party on a ‘Wines of Western France’ tour, based around my own itinerary, and time this to stay in Bordeaux during the third week of June when the Bordeaux Wine Festival is held. The main streets are filled with temporary restaurants offering superb regional food and stalls offering tastings of the previous season’s wines. Nearby chateaux are in the middle of bottling the previous year’s harvest and the surrounding small towns and villages are showing off their best products. The regional tourist office organises chateau visits for those without their own transport and will advise those who come prepared. I hope this helps.
